1) Fineness (Gradation) Test of Sand
Apparatus Required
• IS Sieves (10mm, 4.75mm, 2.36mm, 1.18mm, 600`mu`, 300`mu`, 150`mu`)
•Tray
•Pan
Procedure
•First of all, take the sample of fine aggregate weighing 1000gms.
•Now, place the sample in the set of arranged sieves.
•Now shake the stack of sieve perfectly so that each particle get sufficient chance to pass through the sieve arrangement.
•After shaking, measure and note the weight of sand retained on each sieve.
•Now, fill the fineness report given below.

3) Silt content test by Volume Method
Apparatus Required
•Weighing Balance
•Level Tube
•Water • Salt
Procedure
• First of all, take 100ml clean water in a level tube and add 1gm salt (1% of water).
•Now add 100gm sample sand in the tube and shake it properly.
•Allow the content to settle down for 3 to 4 hrs.
•The silt content will be settled above the sand. Record the reading in the observation sheet.
•Now, calculate the silt content using the below formula.
`= (Volume\ of\ Sil t)/(Total\ Volume\ of\ sampl e) times 100`
